Cutting Edge

About Cutting Edge

Weather comes into Pennington from the northwest, over the shoulder of Baldpate Mountain, and anyone who plows learns to watch that direction the way sailors watch water. Cutting Edge takes the night shift when it turns — plowing driveways, cutting a path to the door, spreading salt on the slick grades that form near gutters and garage aprons. By morning the only evidence is clean pavement and a household that starts its day on time. The warm half of the year belongs to mowing, edging and trimming, with the cleanups that open spring and close autumn. Two kinds of work, one habit: get there early and leave a straight line behind you.
