A landscape in winter is mostly geometry: the drive, the walk, the beds under snow, and the difference between clearing carefully and shoving straight through the shrub line. Steitz Landscape Design & Maintenance works the Powder Mill streets with that in mind, opening driveways, shoveling and blowing walkways, and salting without burying what is planted alongside them. Snow around here often arrives in the evening, quiet and steady, and stops sometime past midnight, so the work happens in between. There is something deeply satisfying about a cleared drive with a straight, deliberate wall of snow squared along each side. The yard comes back in April unbothered, which counts as a result of its own.
