South of the last numbered streets the pavement gives up and Corson's Inlet takes over — dune grass bent flat, water moving fast, wind arriving with nothing in its way. Ford's Landscaping keeps yards on that end of Ocean City and up through the island, where October turns the whole job toward cleanup: leaves off the beds, seed heads down, the last cuts of the season taken short. Autumn light out here is low and clear, and a lawn that has been mowed, edged and raked clean looks twice as good under it. There is a certain pride in handing a yard over to winter tidy, so the first cold snap finds nothing left undone. When the grass starts again in spring, the routine picks right back up.
