August comes down hard on the flat ground above the Cape May Canal. Out toward Town Bank the yards run to sandy loam and stubborn sun, and a lawn held on schedule there is a small act of insistence. Come January the same trucks turn to snow: plowing, shoveling walks, throwing salt on the slick spots where bay damp freezes overnight. Two seasons, one town, both handled.
