March in Roseville is mostly a rumor of spring — bare sycamores along Orange Street, grass the color of straw, and one warm afternoon that convinces the entire neighborhood. Morelandz begins the year right there, with the first cut, the beds cleared of winter paper and leaf, the borders taken back to a line. Then comes the long green middle of the year: weekly mowing, trimming around fences and stoops, hedges kept off the walk. Corner lots in this part of Newark are odd shapes, and odd shapes are where a trimmer earns its keep. By November the leaves have been gathered and carried off, and the yards are allowed to rest.
