A single square mile of Victorian porches, turrets and deep front yards — Merchantville was built to be looked at from the sidewalk. Parker's Lawn Services mows the lawns along Centre Street and the shaded blocks around it, where a wide green apron in front of an old house is half the picture. Cutting through the growing months, trimming close around iron fences and porch steps, edging where lawn meets brick walk, mulching the beds and clearing leaves when the borough's big trees finally give them up. The scale is small and the standards are visible from the street. Done well, the grass makes the architecture look even better than it already does.
