Better Lawns & Gardens

About Better Lawns & Gardens

Up at Macopin the Highlands take over — ledge rock, hemlock, the reservoir sitting cold in its bowl, and snow that falls here on days the valley towns get only rain. Better Lawns & Gardens works that harder country: plowing long gravel drives, shoveling and salting the walks, then mowing, trimming, garden and bed care and cleanups once mud season passes. A steep drive under a foot of wet snow is a puzzle solved with the right pass and somewhere sensible to put what you move. Summer up here runs short and glorious, and the lawns show it — thin soil, big trees, ground that needs reading before it is mown. Both halves of the year end the same way: a place in the woods that looks tended without looking tamed.
