The Morris Canal is a memory under Little Falls now, a line of level ground where boats once climbed the valley. Manny's lawn care services works that flat run of streets year-round: mowing, trimming and cleanups while the ground is open, plowing and salting once it isn't. October fills these yards with maple and oak, and the job is to keep taking it away until the lawn underneath is bare and still green. Then the first storm rewrites the schedule to nights — driveways cut down to the asphalt, walks salted, the way out ready before the workday starts. Two kinds of labor on one set of blocks, with the same idea behind both.
