On a late-May evening in Manchester the breeze off the bay works its way inland through the pines and cools Leisure Village West about an hour before sundown. Jon's Landscaping is often still out in it, finishing the mowing, edging and trimming that keep the village's lawns even from one property to the next. The cedar-dark creeks and sand roads nearby give this corner of Ocean County a character all its own, and the grass holds its color differently here than it does further inland. Spring and fall cleanups fill out the calendar at either end. A row of yards cut on the same day, seen down the length of a street, is the whole point.
