Come November the wind off the water sends Lakewood's leaves everywhere at once — into the hedges, along the curb, packed hard against the storm drains at the low end of a block. Leaf it to Steve goes after them: raked, blown, gathered and hauled, with the beds cleared out and the awkward corners nobody bothers with actually done. Through the growing season it is the steady business of mowing, trimming and edging, week after week, so a lawn arrives at fall already in good shape. Loose soil and coastal damp make for a fast, messy autumn here, and timing counts for more than muscle. The finish is a lawn you can see all of again, right down to the grass.
