Fog settles on the Hackensack marshes some March mornings and comes up over the western edge of Jersey City soft as smoke. Lahwah Landscaping starts its year in that hour — the season's opening mow, winter debris pulled out of the beds, edges reopened where the frost pushed them shut. Spring on this side of the city arrives wet, so the work waits on the ground drying and then moves fast. After that it is weekly: mowing, trimming, keeping the planting beds in order clear through the green months. There is a real pleasure in the first cut lawn on a street that spent five months brown.
