Late May around Cassville and everything wears gold: pine pollen on the mailboxes, on the porch rails, on the hood of the truck. Ally Lawns works straight through it. The mow, the string trimmer along the fence line, the edge run true beside the walk — then the clippings gone and the drive blown clear. Come autumn it is leaves instead, raked out of the beds and off the grass before the first hard frost sets them down for good.
