Come mid-October the woods out toward Bertrand Island turn all at once, and Hopatcong disappears under leaves for about three weeks. Jesse & Sons Lawn Services & Landscaping clears them out, closes the mowing season, then swings over to plowing and shoveling once the first real system tracks up the coast. Spring runs the whole thing backward: cleanups first, then mowing, trimming and edging every week the grass will take one. The borough's yards change character with the season, and so does the machine parked in the driveway. Same hands, same streets, whatever the month happens to be asking for.
