On September mornings the Millstone River lays a low fog along the eastern edge of Hillsborough Township, and it burns off about the time the first mower starts. JML Landscaping Inc. is out in that hour, mowing, trimming and pushing fall leaves off lawns before wet weather sets them down for good. When the river runs cold and the fog turns to ice, the work becomes plowing driveways and salting the walks that freeze first. Two very different jobs, one map, the same houses learned road by road. A clean lawn in October and an open drive in January come from the same habit of showing up.
