Belle Mead is a name on a crossing before it is anything else, a hamlet tucked into Hillsborough Township where the rail line runs dead straight through old farm country. Belle Mead Co-Op tends the lawns that gather around that crossing, mowing, trimming and edging through the long green stretch from May to September. Late spring here comes on fast: one warm week and the grass is ahead of everybody. The pleasure of the job is arriving on time anyway, and leaving a yard that looks calm, level and finished. Small township roads, steady rounds, lawns that stay looked after.
