Highland Park is a borough of street trees, and every November they hand the whole town back to the people who rake. All Property Maintenance takes the leaves off lawns, beds and curb strips, then keeps going into the cold season with plowing, shoveling and de-icing on the narrow shared drives that run between these houses. Winter here is short-notice work: a few inches overnight, a corner lot with two frontages, a walk that has to be down to pavement before anybody leaves for the day. Come April the list turns over to cutting, edging, hedge trimming, mulch and spring cleanups. Same properties, same attention, different tools.
