Late in the day the ridge west of Highland Lakes turns the color of a struck match, and the hillside lawns below hold that light a few minutes longer than the road does. Mountainscapes Lawn Care knows those yards — terraced, banked, cut into the slope, with retaining walls and stairs a mower has to be walked around rather than driven through. Trimming along a wall by hand, cutting across the grade instead of down it, carrying clippings back up to the truck: unglamorous, and the whole job. What comes out of it is an even sweep of grass on ground that never wanted to be a lawn. Mowing and trimming, edges cut by hand, mulch in the spring beds, and cleanups at both ends of the season, across the lakes and the roads that climb away from them.
