40 Shades of Green

About 40 Shades of Green

Late May in Hamilton Township, the azaleas at Sayen Gardens go off like a held note, and for a few weeks every yard in the township seems to be auditioning a different green. 40 Shades of Green works in that register: mowing, edging, trimming and feeding turf until a lawn reads as one intended color instead of a patchwork of guesses. The satisfying part comes at the end of a pass, when the mower shuts off and the stripes lie down straight across the front yard. Cleanups in spring and fall keep the beds honest, and mulch goes down where the soil wants covering. It is ordinary work, done for people who like coming home to a yard that looks looked-after.
