The first flurry of December usually shows up over the Anderson Street bridge, small dry flakes crossing the river sideways and melting on the deck. By January that same crossing is packed white and Hackensack has stopped being charmed by it. Blue Pine Snow and Landscaping works the back half of that season — plowing driveways and lots, shoveling steps and walkways, laying salt where the shade holds ice past noon. Storms here stack up: three inches Tuesday, sleet Thursday, and a hard freeze that welds the leftovers to the asphalt. Clearing it down to pavement before that freeze is the whole art, and the reward is a driveway that looks like the storm skipped the block.
