Diamond Brook runs loud and cold through Glen Rock in April, and the ground along it thaws weeks before anyone believes it has. Hillman and Son start the year there, with spring cleanups, first cuts and edges recut where winter blurred them, then carry mowing and trimming straight through to the last warm week of October. The borough's older plantings, the arboretum trees and the deep front yards along the higher streets, give this place a settled green worth keeping tidy underneath. In winter the work turns hard and fast: driveways plowed, walkways cleared, salt laid where ice sets up in the shade.
