Freehold Township is stitched together out of residential streets, cul-de-sacs and school routes, and when snow falls all of it has to be reachable by morning. The Freehold Twp Road Department runs the plows that make that happen, working the township's roads through the night while the houses along them stay dark. Salt goes down on the hills and the intersections, the routes get run again as the storm keeps coming, and the cul-de-sacs get turned out so nobody is boxed in. It is unglamorous work measured in a single outcome: buses moving, cars getting out, an ordinary Monmouth County morning happening on schedule. By the time most people look outside, the roads are simply there again.
