On an October morning the mist sits over the canal towpath west of Franklin Park until the sun gets above the trees and burns a hole through it. New World Landscaping is usually rolling by then, trailer loaded, the first yard of the day waiting under a night's worth of leaves. The round covers mowing all season, edging along walks and drives, hedge trimming, mulch in the beds, and full leaf clearing once the maples turn loose. There is a particular pleasure in the final pass of a fall cleanup, when the lawn comes back out from under everything and lies open and green in a low sun. Then it is on to the next drive, and the next.
