The heavy weather comes up the coast — a nor'easter spinning moisture inland until Franklin Lakes lies under the wet, dense snow that bends the hemlocks down over a driveway. MW Landworks goes out for those: plowing drives, clearing walkways and steps, and salting wherever a refreeze would finish what the storm started. Wet snow is a different animal from powder; it stacks, it slides back off the blade, and it has to be moved in stages instead of all at once. Between passes the crew keeps the aprons open so nobody sits trapped waiting for the sky to quit. First light on a cleared drive after a night like that is what the whole season is for.
