Small planes bank low over Fairfield on their way into Essex County Airport, and from that height the township is a patchwork of roofs and mown green. Gorgeous Grounds tends a piece of that patchwork — mowing on a set week, edging, trimming, and the cleanups that open and close a season. Late August is when a lawn shows what it has been given: color held through the heat, edges still square, beds clear of what blew in. The measure is what the yard looks like from the sidewalk on the walk to the front door. Fairfield repays the ones who keep at it.
