The Passaic makes its slow turn along the western edge of the borough, and the light coming off it late in the day lays gold across the yards above River Road. BellaVista Landscaping keeps those yards through the growing months — mowing, edging, trimming, and hauling off the clippings and leaves — then trades the mower for the plow when the river runs black and the air goes still. Winter here means driveways cleared and walks salted before the first car backs out. There is a plain satisfaction in a straight cut in July and an open driveway in January; they are the same job seen from two ends of the year. Fair Lawn keeps time by the river, and this work keeps time with the town.
