B. Houf Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance

About B. Houf Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance

Egg Harbor City laid out its streets with the names of far-off places — Buffalo, Cincinnati, Baltimore — and B. Houf Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance spends its summers working those blocks one address at a time. July here comes down flat and bright, the air thick off the meadows by two o'clock, and the sound of a mower moving steady down a long side yard is the sound of the season. Grass in this part of Atlantic County grows in fits, fast after a thunderstorm and stubborn in the dry weeks between, which is why regular mowing and a hand-trimmed border beat any one heroic afternoon. Walks get blown clean, bed lines get cut back to a crisp arc, and the clippings do not stay behind on the sidewalk. Come autumn the same routes fill with leaves, and the cleanups start again, block by named block.
