Dirt & Turf

About Dirt & Turf

Three miles from the surf, Eatontown gets the ocean's opinion on everything: the salt breeze that stiffens in late afternoon, the May fog that beads on every blade of grass, the storms that turn heavy and wet before they turn white. Dirt & Turf works with that weather rather than against it — mowing and trimming through the long green stretch, then plowing drives and clearing walks when a coastal system parks itself over Monmouth County overnight. The name says the two halves of it plainly enough, soil and grass, and both get the same handling. Nothing beats stepping back from a finished lawn with the edges tight and the clippings gone. In winter the equivalent is a driveway opened to bare pavement before the neighborhood is awake.
