A garden center in winter is a hushed place — burlapped evergreens standing along the fence, the yard swept, everything waiting on March. McNaughton's Garden Center and Landscaping spends that stretch on snow: plowing lots and driveways, clearing sidewalks and entrances, and salting the low spots where meltwater collects and goes to ice. Cherry Hill sits right where the storm line likes to wobble, so a forecast of four inches can turn into rain or into a foot, and either way somebody has to be awake for it. When it turns out to be the foot, the work runs all night and into the grey morning after. Then the lots are open, the walks are bare again, and the township goes about its Tuesday.
