Long before it was Chatham, this bend of ground was called Fishawack, and on a July evening you can still hear more insects than engines out here. Royal Lawns cuts, edges and trims through the thick middle of summer, laying stripes across the borough's deep front yards while the light holds past eight o'clock. Fertilizing and overseeding are the patient half of the job — building turf in September that will carry a lawn through the next August. Cleanups clear the way at either end of the season, so nothing sits smothered under a winter's worth of litter. A lawn finished right at dusk has a particular look to it: even, bordered, the mower lines running true to the walk.
