On a Saturday morning in May you can stand along Southern Boulevard and hear half of Chatham Township at once — engines, blades, somebody's dog objecting to all of it. Chatham Lawnmower Services is part of that chorus, mowing, edging and trimming township lawns on a weekly line from the first cut in April to the last one in November. Fertilizing and overseeding fill in the bare spots that deep shade and heavy soil leave behind, and cleanups strip the year's litter off in both directions. When winter arrives the same trucks plow driveways and clear and salt walkways, so a long township drive is passable before the roads are. Whatever the month, the measure stays the same: nothing left ragged.
