In February the lighthouse at Cape May Point keeps turning over an empty beach, and the wind off Delaware Bay has nothing at all to slow it down. Landscape Gardening Inc plows and salts through those weeks, opening driveways and walkways so a house on the Point can be reached at first light. When the wind finally softens they trade the blade for the mower and begin the long green season: cutting, edging, trimming and feeding lawns that grow on sand and dune grit. Cleanups bracket the year at both ends, hauling out the winter's litter in March and the leaf fall in November. The reward is a Point lawn in June — mowed tight to the dune fence, holding its line against all that sky.
