The Columbia Trail runs the length of Califon on an old rail bed, and in July it is a green tunnel with the valley opening on either side. Kuronya & Sons Landscaping, LLC. mows the yards that back onto that country — weekly cuts, edged walks and drives, trimming around posts, stone walls and plantings, and the clippings taken away. Hunterdon lawns lean toward meadow if you let them, so the line between kept and wild has to be drawn on purpose. Cleanups come in spring and again once the leaves are down. Drawn well, that line is most of what a place looks like.
