On the side streets running off Bloomfield Avenue the sidewalks are old slate and the front lawns are small, square and much loved. AAA Yard Work treats them the way they deserve: mowed evenly, trimmed along porch steps and fence posts, edged back where the turf has crept over stone. In Caldwell the houses sit close enough that one shaggy lawn changes a whole block, and one crisp one lifts it. Saturday morning here sounds like mowers, church bells and somebody's screen door. The job ends with the clippings swept off the slate and the street looking like itself again.
