Butler was a rubber-mill town and it still has the bones of one — tight blocks, brick and clapboard, front yards you could measure out in paces. John's Lawn Services cuts those yards the way they ask to be cut: mowing, edging tight to the sidewalk seams, string trimming around porch steps, hydrants and hedges, then the walk blown clean. On a small lot there is nowhere for a sloppy corner to hide. Cleanups come around in April and again in November, when the borough's maples finish. Block after block, the result shows up as one straight run of green along the street.
