Just south of Basking Ridge the Great Swamp opens out, and the mist rising off it on an April morning drifts up into the yards along the edge. Nature's Edge Landscaping tends that in-between ground — mowing, trimming, bed edging and mulch on properties where a kept lawn meets wet woods and has to hold its line. Deer, shade and low ground all conspire against a good stand of grass out here, which is what makes an even, well-cut lawn worth standing back to look at. In winter that same low ground freezes fast, so the plows and the salt go early, opening drives and walkways before the first car moves. The mulch goes down in April and the leaves go out in November, and the year comes around again.
