After a summer rain, Bellmawr smells like cut grass and wet asphalt, and the ballfields off toward Little Timber Creek steam a little as the sun gets going. Mr shoes landscaping and lawn care starts on mornings like that, waiting out the last of the wet and then mowing while the day is still kind. The work is straightforward and it is exacting: even height, clean edges, string-trimmed corners, nothing scalped on the high spots this flat ground hides. Spring brings the first cleanup, autumn brings the leaves, and in between it's the steady pass that keeps a lawn looking cared for rather than merely cut. That difference is the whole job.
