Bay Head is a narrow strip of cedar-shingled houses with the ocean on one hand and Twilight Lake and the bay on the other, and the wind crosses the whole town in about four seconds. East Avenue Contracting keeps the yards there — mowing, edging, trimming, and the two big clear-outs a shore town needs each year, once for the sand and once for the leaves. Hydrangea beds and clipped privet are half the look of this place; keeping the grass around them level and green is the other half. When winter empties the streets, the plows come out for driveways and walks and the salt goes down on the shaded lanes off Main Avenue, so a house nobody is living in still gets its snow moved. Off-season or high summer, the place looks like somebody is watching it.
