On Barnegat's bay side the streets end at bulkheads, and the lagoons ice at their edges before anything else in town does. Shore built services plows those blocks through the winter — narrow driveways, tight turnarounds, walkways that glaze over wherever the wind finds them. A storm off the water drops dense, wet snow here, and the cold behind it welds the stuff down, so timing and a second pass matter more than muscle. The job is finished when a driveway is clear to the concrete and the path to the front step is safe under a boot. Salt goes down last, in the places the freeze will try to take back.
