Cookman Avenue wakes up in April — awnings out, doors propped open, the whole street smelling of rain on warm brick. A block off it, DC Landscaping & Design Inc. is starting the mowing season, bringing lawns out of their dull winter color and cutting the first sharp edges of the year. The work holds that weekly beat right through a shore summer: grass at an even height, trimming close around fences and porch steps, walks blown clear before the truck moves on. Come autumn the leaves are hauled off and the yard is put down for the season. Asbury Park is a town that cares how things look, and a well-kept lawn is part of that picture.
