Alpine sits on top of the Palisades, where the lawns end at the treeline and the Hudson runs a few hundred feet straight down. Alpine Gardens keeps that high ground green — mowing, edging and bed work through the long warm months, when river light climbs the cliff face at dawn and lays itself flat across the grass. Winter changes the assignment entirely: the plow goes out while the ridge is still dark, and by the time the sun clears the far shore the driveways are open and salted. There is a plain pride in that, a homeowner stepping out onto a clear apron of blacktop without ever having to think about how it got that way. Between the two, the work is simply keeping this wooded shelf above the river looking like someone loves it.
