When Wolfeboro Bay locks up in January, the wind comes off the ice and up the streets above Main with nothing at all to slow it. The Country Sweep plows through those nights — driveways, parking areas and turnarounds opened before the first errand of the day, walkways shoveled down to the tread. Storms off Winnipesaukee can drop heavy snow and then blow it straight back across everything already cleared, which is why the return pass matters as much as the first. Sand and salt go where the grade drops toward the water and ice starts having ideas of its own. By morning the drive is dark pavement, the walk is bare, and winter in Wolfeboro is simply weather again.
