There is a week in Windham when the ground cannot decide — the oaks above Cobbetts Pond still holding their rust, the first two inches arriving in the dark — and that is the week Pat's Plowing & Lawncare turns its hands from mulch beds to plow blades. Winter here is the early shift: driveways opened before the town wakes, salt and sand laid where the granite hills tip the pavement, ice managed so the walk to the car is only a walk. Come the thaw the same crew comes back for spring cleanup, mulch spread dark and even around the beds, and a mowing rhythm — weekly or every other week — that carries a yard through the long green light of a southern New Hampshire summer. Hedges get shaped, trim lines get held, clippings and windfall get carried off, and stone gets split for the places a lawn needs a hard edge. It is work you can read from the road, and it holds its season.
