Green-up on Corser Hill arrives late and then all at once, and by the middle of May a Webster lawn can put on an inch in three days. Roberts Greenhouse opens the season there with the spring cleanup — winter sand raked out, deadfall carried off, the turf let back into the light. After that it is the steady mow week to week, trimming around stone walls and dooryard trees, the border trimmed back along walks and driveways. Autumn closes it with the leaves cleared and one last close cut. The pleasure of the job is watching a tired April yard become a June one.
