Pine River Pond thaws and the camp roads in East Wakefield fill up again with people who have been gone since Columbus Day. Up Country Property Services meets them with the grass already knocked down and the winter's fallen limbs stacked out of sight. Through the warm months the mowing keeps its schedule whether anybody is home or not, with trimming around cottage foundations and edging along the gravel turnarounds. Come October the leaves are cleared and the yard put to bed for the cold. A camp lawn ought to look like someone loved it all along, even the weeks nobody was there.
