Storms come into Thornton over the Welch and Dickey ledges and drop their load in the valley without asking. NH Plow King runs the driveways off Route 175 and the side roads near exit 28 while the rest of town is still asleep — plowing, shoveling entries, and treating the ice that always follows a thaw. Mountain snow lands heavy and arrives in cycles, so a single pass is rarely the whole job. There's a particular pride in a drive cleared down to the gravel before dawn, banks pushed back far enough to matter for the next one. Come morning everybody simply leaves for work, which is the entire point.
