From the shoulder of Mount Caesar the whole of Swanzey turns over in October — orange, then rust, then bare. Hart Brothers Tree Service spends that stretch on the lawns below it, pulling leaves off the grass before the first hard frost mats them into the turf. Through the green months it is mowing on a steady rotation, trimming close along fences and foundations, mulch laid fresh in the beds each spring. Overseeding goes down when the nights cool and the ground still holds its warmth, which is the only window new grass really takes here. By the last visit of the year the lawn is short, clean and ready to sleep under snow.
