The Bearcamp runs cold and shallow through North Sandwich, and on a still evening you can hear it from the road once the mowers are finally shut off. Southern New Hampshire Outdoor Services works the properties along that valley — mowing, string trimming, edging, and the seasonal cleanups that open a yard in April and close it in November. River-bottom grass grows thick and fast, so the schedule is what keeps it honest. There is pride in a lawn that never gets ahead of you: even height, clean margins, walks blown off before the gate goes up on the trailer. Sandwich is a beautiful town, and a well-cut yard is a small way of agreeing with it.
