The ocean is twenty miles east of Rochester, close enough that a coastal storm gets here loaded and mean. Seacoast Plow LLC runs the overnight shift through it, plowing driveways and lots from the Spaulding Turnpike corridor out into the surrounding towns. Wet snow packs hard at the mouth of a driveway once the town plow goes by, and cutting that ridge back is the difference between stuck at seven and gone by eight. They open walks, stack the banks clear of sightlines, and sand where the daytime melt will freeze again after dark. The best part of the night is always the last driveway: black pavement, headlights, and everything else white.
