Newmarket is built on ledge — granite shoulders up through the pasture, and the town's old quarries cut it for buildings the length of the coast. Stone Bay works on top of that hard ground all winter: snow plowing, driveway and parking-area clearing, shoveling entries and walkways, sanding and salting where ice sets on rock and refuses to leave. Ledge under a driveway means a fast freeze, shallow heaves, and gravel that wants to travel, so you plow it differently than you would soft ground. The aim in each storm is simple and specific — pavement out to the edges, banks pushed well back, nobody spinning at the bottom of a slope. Cold country, straightforward work.
