Milton sits along the Salmon Falls River with Maine on the far bank and the Three Ponds strung out through the middle of town. Morrill & Sons mows the lawns between them — the sloped yards off Route 125, the flat grass down near the water, edges cut clean against gravel and stone. Spring starts wet here and stays wet a while, so the first cleanups are all rake and patience; by August it is steady mowing and keeping the borders sharp. The routes cover Milton and Milton Mills, plus Farmington, Middleton, Rochester, Union and Wakefield. Come October the leaves let go all at once, and clearing them off a lawn is its own kind of satisfaction.
